Gwinnett Community Events

Gwinnett Disaster Relief Team

The Gwinnett Disaster Relief Team was formed by members of the Gwinnett Chamber following last summer's Hurricane Katrina. Members volunteered their time and money to make several trips to Louisiana to assist hurricane victims. Since that time, the organization has continued to make trips to the Gulf coast, and has begun to develop plans for assisting with disaster planning and response in the Gwinnett area. The group has regular planning meetings on the third monday of each month at Houston and Company CPAs on Satellite Boulevard that are open to the public, and invites anyone interested in helping out to attend. Learn more about this organization at the Gwinnett Disaster Relief Team website.

ABWA Collecting Unneeded Cell Phones

The Gwinnett Chapter of the ABWA is collecting old or unneeded cell phones in partnership with the The Women's Resource Center to End Domestic Violence. These phones will be refurbished and programmed for emergency numbers only. Phones not needed for emergency placement will be converted into cash. All proceeds benefit the WRCDV, which provides temporary emergency shelter for more than 700 women and children, and a family resettlement program that provides financial support for transition from shelter to permanent homes. To contribute a phone, please call Linca Bennett at 770-921-9165.
