Do You Own a Business or a Job?

Let's take the ACTION International test called "do you own your business".

Stand Up!

That's right, Stand Up!

For this test to work correctly, you need to stand up. Don't worry about looking around to see if anybody is watching you, most of your team members probably think you are half crazy anyway.

Now that you are standing up, if you cannot do the following, sit down.

That's right, if you cannot do the following:

You wake up at 10.00am in the morning, in the middle of your business week, without the aid of an alarm clock.

If you can't do that - Sit down!

You pick up the phone, beside the bed, and call work. Someone other than your voice or an answering service answers the phone.

If you can't do that - Sit down!

You say to the other person on the other end of the phone, "I don't feel like coming into work today, look after it for me, OK."

If you can't do that - Sit down!

Just before you hang up, you say, "Oh, by the way, I'm not coming in for the next three months. I've just decided to take an overseas vacation."

If you can't do that - Sit down!

You go overseas and come back to more than an empty parking lot - in fact a business better than what it was when you left.

If you can't do that - Sit down!

There should only be three reasons that you are standing up right now:

• You back has seized up from overwork and you can't sit down (You need to call a doctor right now.)
• You are so stunned at the realization that you don't own a business, that your body won't move (The same thing happens when a lion is about to pounce on you.) - You need to call an ACTION business coach - right now!
• You really truly do own a business - Congratulations YOU OWN A BUSINESS!!

The ACTION International definition of a business is: A commercial profitable enterprise that works without you!

For all those of you that had to sit down through the test, you are probably thinking one of the following:

1. My business will die without ME - no one can do it as good as I can and you just can't get good staff these days
   
2. My business is only 4 years old - so what if I'm working 60 - 80 hours a week and have not had a holiday in those 4 years, I'm still building it up.
   
3. It's just not making the money it's supposed too.
   
4. Um! Um! Why AM I sitting down? This is not what I went into business for. I thought going into business meant that I could work when I wished and make the money I want. I want to be standing up!
